Reflexology

reflexology

Reflexology is a system based on the belief that each part of the body is connected through the nervous system to the hands, ears and feet. Stimulating specific reflex points in the hands or feet through a nurturing touch helps reduce anxiety and can bring needed nutrients to poorly functioning areas of the body. This can help restore balance throughout the body, aiding the whole person and not just alleviating the prevailing symptoms at that
time.

Benefits:

  • Used to help balance emotions
  • Improves circulation throughout the physical body
  • Increases blood circulation to and within the brain
  • Improves concentration and the ability to meditate
  • Relieves insomnia
  • Helps in lowering blood pressure
  • Calms the nervous system
  • Promotes a feeling of well-being and renewed energy
  • Reduces migraines
  • Helps reduce constipation and various digestive problems
  • Helps pain relief in the neck, shoulders, back and jaw
  • Helps rid the body of toxins in the lymphatic system
  • Aids some post cancer treatments

Fertility Reflexology /Maternity Reflexology/Post Natal Reflexology

Maternity Reflexology

During pregnancy the body goes through significant changes and these changes will affect the emotional, hormonal and psychological balance of the body.

Pregnancy is a time when the mother needs to be nurtured and cherished and this is one of the aims of Maternity Reflexology. Maternity Reflexology can support you throughout your pregnancy and help prepare for the birth of your baby.

Specialised techniques will encourage you to relax and could ease the uncomfortable symptoms that you may be experiencing at this time.

If your due-date has come and gone maternity reflexology may be able to help. Treatments are very effective at promoting deep relaxation and I am able to use specialised techniques which may encourage the onset of labour.

Maternity reflexology is well known for the natural induction for labour and is provided in hospitals in many countries in Europe, including the UK. Maternity reflexology is a specialised therapy and it is important that a midwife’s permission is obtained before reflexology treatments can commence.

Maternity reflexology can help with the many common ailments experienced in pregnancy including:

  • Morning sickness
  • Heartburn
  • Insomnia
  • Back pain
  • Hyperemesis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrom
  • Pelvic girdle pain (SPD)
  • Leg cramps
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches etc.

Maternity Reflexology treatments can start from as early as when planning conception and continue through to birth; working with both the mother and father. Regular sessions are advised, increasing towards the due date. However, starting during later months still offers significant benefits. Reflexology can be given as much as 3 to 4 times a week to help with a quick and easy birth. Techniques will also be taught to partners to help both of you through the time of labour.

Maternity Reflexology can also support chemical production in the brain which in turn encourages breast milk production, and also the return of normal hormone function which in turn helps to reduce post natal depression. Mother and baby in peace, balance and perfect harmony.

Post-natal Reflexology

After you ave had your baby the healing and balancing qualities of reflexology are a very gentle and natural way to help you recover from the extraordinary changes that your body has been through over the last nine months.

Fertility Reflexology works on an emotional and physical level to ease away stress and tension. Relaxation is crucial if you are having fertility issues, and you need to allow time to clear emotional blockages, which may be affecting your ability to conceive. It is prefered if both partners are recieving therapies.

Reflexology may also help by:

  • Regulating and balancing hormone levels.
  • Encouraging the body’s own healing abilities.
  • Balancing all systems of the body to function efficiently.

Menopause Care

Both my own experience of working with menopausal clients and research has shown that a combination of reflexology, nutritional advice and specially blended aromatherapy oils help bring significant relief from hormonal imbalances of the body.

What is Menopause?

Changes in the body’s production and levels of the female hormones oestrogen and progesterone due to the end of a woman’s time of fertility cause the symptoms of the menopause.

Because of this menopause affects every woman at some time in her life, but we will all experience it differently. Some women will be trouble free whilst others will experience an extremely difficult and uncomfortable time.

You may experience:

  • • Hot flushes and night sweats
  • • Dry skin and hair
  • • Low libido
  • • Viginal dryness, painful intercourse
  • • Incontinence
  • • Irregular peroids
  • • Fatigue
  • • Insomnia
  • • Weight gain
  • • Urinary infections
  • • Emotional
  • • Mood swings
  • • Anxiety
  • • Forgetfulness

Many woman are on Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to ease their symptoms, but research has shown that complementary therapies can help to relieve the symptoms – especially reflexology, dietary changes and aromatherapy oils.

Heavy & Painful Peroids – Menorrhagia

Every woman’s body is different and the amount of blood each person loses varies, but if you’re changing on an hourly basis then this is classed as a heavy period. There can also be other underlying gynaecological problems. Menorrhagia is menstrual blood loss which interferes with the woman’s physical, emotional, social and material quality of life, and which can occur alone or in combination with other symptoms. Any intervention should aim
to improve her quality of life. Research studies usually take menorrhagia to be a monthly menstrual blood loss in excess of 80 ml or 8 teaspoons. The exact reasons why you may develop menorrhagia aren’t fully understood at present. Doctors aren’t able to find a cause for Menorrhagia in four to six out of ten women who have it. This is called dysfunctional uterine bleeding (unexplained menorrhagia).

However, Menorrhagia can be caused by:

  • Fibroids
  • Polyps in your womb
  • Endometriosis
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
  • Blood disorders
  • Conventional intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCDs)
  • Womb cancer, although this is rare in younger women
  • In some cases Menorrhagia can also be caused by an underactive thyroid.
  • Gynaecolgical conditions that may cause heavy bleeding include:
  • Sterilisation

Menorrhagia can cause iron deficiency and anaemia. Anaemia is a condition where you have too few red blood cells or not enough haemoglobin in your blood. Around two-thirds of women with menorrhagia have iron-deficiency anaemia. Menorrhagia can make you feel self-conscious and embarrassed during your period. It may also cause you to have mood swings or affect your sex life.

As well as heavy bleeding, you may have the following symptoms:

  • Longer periods than normal
  • Tiredness
  • Light-headedness
  • Poor sleep pattern
  • Shortness of breath

Complementary therapies can be used alongside conventional medicine and research has shown that Reflexology and Aromatherapy oils can relieve the symptoms above and help rebalance the body.

These symptoms aren’t always caused by menorrhagia but if you have them, you should visit your GP first.
